Aluminum Free Natural Cream Deodorant Reviews: PiperWai, Soapwalla and More

Picture of aluminum free paraben free natural deodorant creams and pastes: PiperWai charcoal deodorant from Shark Tank, Soapwalla, Meow Meow Tweet and Primal Pit Paste

Whew. Almost done reviewing all of the natural deodorants I’ve tried over the past 5 years! This post is all about the natural deodorant creams and pastes. Yes they can be a bit messy and they aren’t as convenient as stick deodorants, but sometimes they get the job done better!

Primal Pit Paste Unscented Natural Deodorant Review

I wanted to like this one a lot – it was available at Whole Foods which means I could buy it regularly locally, and it was a pretty good price if I recall. But after thorough testing, this just doesn’t do it for me. I like a lot of the ingredients: baking soda (I like that in my deodorants), organic arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch (A++ in my book), organic coconut oil – Awesome. However, it has shea butter and LOTS of it from what i can feel and smell. Shea butter and I just don’t jive well. I found this deodorant paste to be too sticky and not fresh enough to last most of the day. It’s about as effective for me as natural salt and Crystal deodorants – which, isn’t very effective.

Some good things about primal pit paste: it’s vegan! and cruelty free! paraben free! and most ingredients are organic.

Meow Meow Tweet Grapefruit Deodorant Cream Review

Much like Crystal deodorant, I had 3 people recommend this Meow Meow Tweet deodorant paste to me in the course of a week. Similar to the primal pit paste, it has arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch, plus coconut oil and shea butter. It doesn’t however have baking soda – not sure why? I think that irritates some people. I think it has less shea butter than Primal Pit Paste because I tolerate better. But it also has added magnesium, jojoba oil and candelilla wax. And of course to get the grapefruity-ness it uses grapefruit, lemon sweet orange and bergamot essential oils. I can normally tolerate citrus, but this blend is all too sweet for me. It too is also vegan.

I think this is just OK. It’s definitely better than primal pit paste, but I think it would be more effective for me if it did contain baking soda.

Soapwalla Deodorant Cream Review

Now we’re talking. This stuff works! (are you sensing the order of these reviews??). I had this on my list of products to try for a while, and I finally picked some up while shopping at Follain in Boston last summer. I put this little cream of deodorant wonder to a strong test: a week long family vacation in a full house with extended family during the max heat of the summer in New England! This keeps me very fresh for most of the day. And I love that its mostly organic.

The winning ingredients in this deodorant:

  • baking soda
  • Kaolin clay
  • corn starch (let’s face it, it does absorb better than arrowroot powder)
  • Jojoba oil
  • Vegan and kosher glycerin (I’m fine with glycerin but I have a friend who is very sensitive to it)

Ingredients I could do without or would prefer less of

  • This aluminum free natural deodorant cream is HEAVY on the essential oil usage. I smell the lavender and tea tree the most but it also contains tea tree oil (not a huge fan of ), peppermint oil and citrus oils.
  • The “cirtrus” version is even more citrusy but I prefer the original version better actually.

It also has sunflower oil and rosehip seed oil. Overall this performs well and I would highly recommend it, however I feel like I was going through this waaay to quickly and it’s about $20 for a 2oz jar. To save some costs I started making my own deodorant out of desperation…it’s pretty good but not quite a perfected enough recipe for me to share yet. It was mostly based on this Aura Cacia recipe , but with like 90% fewer essential oil drops.

PiperWai – ABC’s the Shark Tank Deodorant Review

My husband and I are avid Shark Tank watchers so I had heard of PiperWai in 2015 and have been meaning to give this Shark Tank deodorant a go. I finally got around to trying it, and as you might be able to tell, I saved the best for last in my review! THIS STUFF WORKS! It keeps me fresher throughout the day longer than any of these other deodorant pastes. It’s both husband, work and workout approved! This can also be picked up at most GNCs (where the store tells me they sometimes have trouble keeping it in stock) which makes it convenient to buy for me. It’s vegan, cruelty free and made in the USA.

Like many of the other natural deodorant pastes it includes coconut oil, baking soda and shea butter (not too much :)). Much like the Soapwalla, it has lots of essential oils + some flower extracts. I wish it were less scented but overall it’s effective enough that I try to not let the essential oils bother me. The essential oils are intense – in a different way than Soapwalla. The main star ingredient in this aluminum free natural deodorant is activated charcoal – this seems to absorb better and keep me more fresh than the clay in Soapwalla. Did I mentioned PiperWai is also cheaper than Soapwalla? And it’s consistency is overall less creamy, so my jar seems to last much longer than the Soapwalla deodorant. PiperWait also doesn’t transfer onto my clothing!
