Holy moly another natural deodorant review and I still haven’t hit the tip of the iceberg of all the aluminum free and natural deodorants I’ve tested! This aluminum free thing is exhausting!
Of all the beauty products and philosophies that are most personal – very most by person to person – natural deodorant has got to be at the top of the list! I had these crystal deodorants recommend to me by 3 people all in one week so I took a month to collect and try all of them. The results: no bueno. These do not work with my body chemistry.
These are right up their with magnesium deodorants for me (and by up there I mean at the lower end of my effective skin care product list)
I wouldn’t say any of these are husband approved in my home (meaning my husband thinking I smell great while wearing these), BUT he at least didn’t notice that I was in another deodorant testing phase (and he certainly let’s me know when I have truly bad test results 🙂 )
Based on my personal experiences:
Crystal Natural Deodorant Review (a travel size, you know, to be more fiscally responsible)
I was hopeful to try this classic natural mineral salt deodorant since I had this recommended to me frequently the past few months. I was overwhelmed for sure. It’s only ingredient is potassium alum – a natural mineral salt. Supposedly all you have to do is moisten the salt stone with water and apply and wait to dry. The “invisible protective barrier” it supposedly creates is a bit too invisible for me. Kudos to them for owning thecrystal.com
Sprouts Brand Wide Stick Mineral Salt Deodorant Review
To ensure enough of a scientific approach, I also picked up Sprouts brand mineral salt deodorant to try around the same time as the Crystal brand natural salt deodorant. I found pretty similar results with this Sprouts brand deodorant: it just maintains a natural arm-pitty-ness. I wouldn’t say it kept me fresh at all.
Like the Crystal brand classic salt deodorant, its fragrance free, with no aluminum and alcohol and no parabens. Somehow it’s also supposed to “kill odor causing bacteria”. I’m sure this works for some people, but salt deodorant just doesn’t seem to be my jam.
Crystal Brand Lavender and White Tea Deodorant Review
Not wanting to give up on salt deodorants, I also tried another form of Crystal brand deodorant Crystal essence mineral roll-on deodorant. I even got a scented version if you can believe that – Lavender & White Tea. They claimed the “natural” fragrance is from essential oils and extracts so I thought I would be able to handle it.
This liquid dries fast and didn’t leave a residue which is nice. Like the other mineral salt deodorants it is hypoallergenic and paraben free. It makes a big claim that it “prevents body odor 24 hours”. My verdict: this makes it harder to tell if you actual body odor because the scent is quite strong. I did not feel super fresh, but an unscented version of this may work better than the solider mineral salt deodorants. This deodorant is just mineral salts, water, natural fragrance and acids.
The Holistic Science Company Aluminum Free Odor D-Fense Unscented Deodorant Review
I’ve lumped this local San Diego (Ocean Beach… woot woot!) beauty line’s deodorant in with mineral salts because it has a dead see salt base. This is an unscented and aluminum free liquid roll on ph balanced on natural deodorant It goes on clear, dries quickly – maybe too quickly (from the witch hazel?) – and feels very fresh. I just don’t think it lasts very long. I would still recommend this over the Crystal and Sprouts natural mineral salt deodorants. It does contain baking soda – which I love in a natural aluminum free deodorant – but I understand it can be irritating to others. I bought this and a few other of their products at a farmer’s market and I’m looking forward to trying more from this brand.
More reviews to come until I have all the 30+ natural deodorants I’ve tried over the past 5 years reviewed.
